Trolley back on track for Ice Fest
A unique feature will return this year as part of the #StrongerTogether Ice Fest in Lake Orion and Oxford.
A trolley will shuttle people between the two villages as part of an event set to take place each weekend in February.
The trolley was loaned to Oxford from SMART as part of a pilot program last year.
The Oxford Downtown Development Authority purchased the trolley last month for $6,100 and the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority agreed to fund $5,000 for repairs.
Those repairs will keep the trolley sidelined until next week, but Suzy Sebastian, event coordinator for the Lake Orion DDA, said it will be up and running for the rest of the Ice Fest weekends.
"The trolley is a great way to shuttle people back and forth and lets people get out right in downtown and check out places they have never been or go back to ones that are their favorites," said Sebastian. "People really seem to like it."
The trolley will transport people between Oxford and Lake Orion from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and 3 to 9 p.m. Saturdays.
The pickup location in Oxford will be at Magic Brownie Box on Washington Street and drop-off will be at Funky Monkey Toy Store, also on Washington.
The pickup location in Lake Orion will be at Fork & Pint on Broadway Street and drop-off at Nuts About Chocolate, also on Broadway.
The plan is to have the trolley continue to run routes between Lake Orion and Oxford on Fridays and Saturdays later this spring. Times for those routes are yet to be determined.
