A 20-year-old woman is expected to survive the injuries she suffered when she became trapped under an MBTA Green Line trolley in Boston, according to the MBTA Transit Police Department.

The Boston Fire Department shared a photograph of its technical rescue team and first responders from the scene at Boston University Central Station along the B Branch of the Green Line.

Transit police officials said the incident happened at about 11:40 p.m. Friday in the area of 745 Commonwealth Ave., which is near BU Central Station and the listed address for the Boston University School of Theology.

The incident did require Boston firefighters to perform a technical rescue from under the trolley, according to transit police. In a tweet, the Boston Fire Department said it received assistance from Boston police, transit police, Boston Emergency Medical Services personnel and MBTA personnel.

Boston EMS confirmed to NewsCenter 5 that emergency medical technicians transported one patient to an area hospital in connection with the incident.

Transit police said the woman suffered serious injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.

The incident does not appear to be the result of any mechanical or MBTA employee failure, but it does remain under the investigation of transit police detectives, according to officials.
